David Hurst is a registered Clinical and Counselling Psychologist in Ontario and the founder of City Centre Psychology, an independent practice in Toronto dedicated to compassionate, evidence-informed care for adults and first responders. He is a member of both the Ontario Psychological Association and the Canadian Psychological Association. He earned his Honours B.A. in Psychology from Laurentian University (2010), followed by his M.A. in Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto (2013).
Before becoming a psychologist, David served as a first responder in search and rescue, an experience that continues to shape his understanding of trauma, resilience, and the psychological toll of frontline service. This background informs his deeply empathetic approach to supporting individuals in high-stress professions, including police officers, paramedics, healthcare providers, and other emergency personnel. He spent many years working with Dr. Robin Mitchell and Dr. Jonathan Douglas at Central Ontario Psychology where he learned so much from their expertise working with First Responders and the WSIB system. He knows they are just a call away and he thanks them for their friendship and support!
David works with clients facing a range of psychological concerns, including PTSD, religious trauma, occupational stress, anxiety, and depression. His clinical style is strength-based, relational, and collaborative—empowering individuals as the experts in their own lives and helping them build insight, resilience, and a renewed sense of connection.
City Centre Psychology is guided by the belief that to be human is to experience both joy and suffering—and that every individual holds a deep capacity to heal, grow, and thrive through adversity. The practice’s mission is to simplify healing by helping individuals live day by day, moment by moment, uncovering inner wisdom, shifting unhelpful patterns, and discovering blessings even in their darkest moments. Services are tailored, experiential, and holistic, honoring the unique context of each person—mind, emotions, and felt sense alike.
In addition to his clinical work, David is committed to clinical training and supervision and actively contributes to the advancement of ethical, inclusive, and accessible psychological services in Ontario.
